River Basin Days is a monthly series of outdoor public programs geared towards families. Join us at different locations around the Fraser River Basin as we explore this incredible watershed! Our staff will guide you through 1-hour of activities, experiments, and art projects as we learn about the biodiversity of this great river.

Deas Island Regional Park

Summer Solstice Surprise

The Sun is essential for life on Earth, providing the energy necessary for photosynthesis, regulating climate, and sustaining ecosystems around the Fraser River! Learn about when the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky by making a sundial and creating nature sun prints! This month, we are headed to Deas Island Regional Park, located in Delta, to learn all about the power of the Sun during the summer solstice! 

WHEN: Saturday, June 14th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session will be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.

WHERE: Deas Island Regional Park, Delta, BC (meeting location at Deas Island Millenium Trail parking lot) 

WHAT:  

  • Learn how the Sun guides the summer solstice. 
  • Observe the passing of time with a sundial. 
  • Create nature sun prints. 

WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families. 

COST: This event is free.

COVID-19 Safety: 

  • Pre-registration is required.  
  • Individual group size is limited to five (5) maximum. Workshop registration limited to five (5) groups.  
  • During the workshop, groups are required to follow physical distancing guidelines.  
  • Masks are recommended.
